Because she doesn’t work!

There has been a constant labelling with a woman. She doesn’t have a choice but is given an option like either be a doctor OR a singer. Why can’t she be both? By the way a singer with a doctorate degree is like an icing on the cake. There is absolutely nothing wrong in that. Why an option? Her choices can be multiple more so because she has multitude of talent and ambition to fly high.

Having said that, there is another label that a woman is attached to, that she doesn’t work, but what she does is incomparable and no man can ever do that. I saw a message sometime back somewhere. Let me quote it here:

Conversation between Husband (H) and a Psychologist (P):

P: What do you do for a living Mr. Bandy?
H: I work as an Accountant in a Bank.

P: Your Wife?
H: She doesn’t work. She’s a Housewife only.

P: Who makes breakfast for your family in the morning?
H: My Wife, because she doesn’t work.

P: At what time does your wife wake up for making breakfast?
H: She wakes up at around 5 am because she cleans the house first before making breakfast.

P: How do your kids go to school?
H: My wife takes them to school, because she doesn’t work.

P: After taking your kids to school, what does she do?
H: She goes to the market, then goes back home for cooking and laundry. You know, she doesn’t work.

P: in the evening, after you go back home from office, what do you do?
H: Take rest, because I’m tired due to all day works.

P: What does your wife do then?
H: She prepares meals, serving our kids, preparing meals for me and cleaning the dishes, cleaning the house then taking kids to bed.

Whom do you think works more, from the story above???

So you see, after taking care of the family, preparing lunch, dinner, doing the laundry , taking care of kids, going to market, getting the grocery and vegetables, cleaning the house and still not taking rest, a woman is tagged as “Because she doesn’t work”.

The crux of the above quote is that, a man or the society for that matter can give an ultimatum to choose between two things, but they never give them an option or a choice on the other tasks that she does at home without complaining. She goes to office and takes care of the family, and does the laundry and cleans the house and goes to market. Where is the OR label then? So what you say is one can conveniently use the OR label whenever they wish to against a woman or to hinder her career or her aspirations for that matter.

It’s about time we stop this and give equal opportunity to women and if one can’t accept this, then go take the challenge yourself , I dare you to do a single task that a woman does whole day long and come back with your snarky statements then.
